Are tricky. Do you wait to share the name until after baby is born? Do you share first name only? Do you share first and middle?
When I was pregnant with Owen, I pretty much told anyone who would listen what we planned to name our child. Boy name: Owen. Our girl name: Lorelai. People feel VERY strongly about names. Apparently, they feel even more strongly when it’s not even their child. I had a coworker tell me she HATED the name Lorelai. “It’s such a confusing name. How will your child ever learn to spell her name by kindergarten?” Um….yeah. Thanks. Perhaps I should mention this was also the same coworker that told me how big my thighs were getting and that I seemed to have gotten really bad acne during my pregnancy. As if I didn’t look in a mirror everyday. Thanks for pointing out my flaws. (PS Have I mentioned how THANKFUL I am not to be working this pregnancy?!)
We have chosen to tell a few family members (and a close friend or two) what we are naming this baby. Again, mixed reactions. Some people LOVE the name. (Thanks, Mom, for always being in my corner. Even if I were to name my child Buzz Lightyear.) Other people have told me they “aren’t sure how I feel about that name.” Followed by a long, awkward silence. Super.
With that being said, we haven’t decided if we’ll share baby boy’s full name before he’s born. I figure, once baby is born and you say, “This is my son, Owen Douglas.” No one will really say that they hate the name. It’s a done deal. Birth certificate has been signed. But, if there is still some time left before the ink has dried, it’s clearly not a done deal in some people’s eyes.
I will tell you that baby boy’s name starts with a C. 🙂
yaaaay!!!
We didn’t share Emily’s name with anyone, not even family. I wanted it to be a surprise. They knew it was a girl and that was enough for me. I also didn’t want to hear peoples opinions. I am not the type of person that would be nice if someone said they didn’t like the name I picked. They can name their kid what they want and I can name mine what I want 🙂
